SCUBA DIVING IN HOIAN :
In the bay, on the west side, protected
by the 7 islets and Cham island, fishermen rest in their boat enjoying
the safety and calmness of Cham bays. During the good season, from
beginning of march till end of august, the water get clearer and can
offer up to 20 meters underwater visibility, revealing some beautiful
coral reefs near all the islets and also Rang Manh pinnacles that will
make many experienced scuba divers very happy.
THE HON TAI CORAL REEF is one of the most beautiful, with colorful
coral growing down to 15 meters, you will meet all traditional coral
fish - parrot, clown, angel, lion, damsel, pipefish, hollyqueen
sweetlips, nudibranches...., beautiful colored moray eels, clownfish
defending their luxurious anemones - and some bigger fish visiting :
barracudas, sea brasses, needle fish, yellowfins, etc ...
Although
it is a great site for beginners, no current, good visibility and
shallows depth, experienced divers can enjoy the back of Hon Tai, down
to 25 meters, where it is a meeting point for hunting fish like
barracudas, seabrasses, tunafish, lion fish, scorpion fish. At 5 meters
on the way up divers will visit a great cave and swimtroughs where a
whole tribe of different fish are enjoying the coral covered walls
before swimming back to the Hon Tai bay. Sometime dugongs are visiting
this part of Hon Tai.
THE RANG MANH PINNACLES : Probably the most interesting dive site in Vietnam coastline: 5 minutes navigation from Hon Tai reef lies Rang Manh pinnacles; “the dragon reef”, at 25 meters depth, offering its 3 pinnacles heading up at 11, 9 and 7 meters and protecting a luxurious fauna and flora from fishing lines and nets. Divers will be surprised by the density of life covering the dragon reef. Everywhere one can see reveals a scene of marine life with a whole range of strange shells, schools of fish flying in all directions, spied by smart scorpion fish, lion fish, moray eels, themselves observed by the divers, themselves supervised by bigger hunting fish who come to watch who are these strangers swimming in their foodstore... The second sensation will be the stunning colors of the soft coral grapes that can measure over 1m50 down to 25 meters, growing sometime inside luxurious canyons that the diver follows to find stunning caves where filters the light of the sun, revealing big seabrasses and groupers or a huge blue or pink jelly fish resting between two adventures. Rang Manh is definitely one of the best divesite of Vietnam coastline where even experienced marine life scientists will enjoy the biodiversity. Rang Manh is big enough to provide 3 to 4 dives of one hour visiting different places of the dive site.
CHAM ISLAND EAST SIDE : On the east side, cliffs are facing the open sea and one can find 40 meters deep dive sites, caves and swimtroughs. Soft coral is growing down to 20 meters. We can meet beautiful 80 cm sea brasses, bumped head parrot fish, and on the way up find all typical coral fish at the feets of underwater cliffs, 10-12 meters deep. You will meet clown, angel, lion, damsel, scorpion, and many other fish, and also 3 kinds of cray fish (aragosta), crabs, shrimps, pipefish, a whole range of different mollusks.
EAST SIDE DEEPEST POINT : East side deepest point lies at 53 meters depth at the east edge of the island.
HON DAI ISLAND : on the west side of “long island” lies a nice bay, surrounded by rocks. Coral grows down to 12 meters but one can find beautiful rock formations down to 17 meters. Some lobsters home there. One can see all Cham marine life there but the most interesting of this site is its visibility. Very well protected, Hon Dai has a good visibility even in strong wind conditions. It is very rich in cray fish, all sorts of shrimps, clown fish, scorpion fish and is visited sometime by a beautiful octopus. Hon Dai has also a deep side going down at 25 meters and revealing astonishing corals, 1m50 to 2 meters high with the most beautiful shapes and colors that only nature can imagine.
Because Cham Island Marine Park is still an unexplored diving site, many other dive sites and also old wrecks are yet to be discovered. Experienced divers will be welcome to make survey dives with CIDC instructors.
