Day 1: Arrival Hanoi

Arrival day. People will be arriving throughout the day to join the tour. There are no arranged activities planned today, but we will have a group meeting in the evening. Your group leader will leave a note at reception advising the time of the meeting (around 6:00pm). Then we set out to explore the city and enjoy our first taste of Vietnam's wonderful cuisines. Day 2: Hanoi
Hanoi
city tour. This morning we take you to the streets of Hanoi to explore
some of the city's fascinating sites. We delve into the Old Quarter
traveling through narrow meandering lanes packed with all manner of
curios, textiles and household goods. We also take a trip to the Temple
of Literature - Vietnam's first university, the Hanoi Hilton Prison and
in the evening we take in a performance of Vietnam's famous water

Day 3: Hanoi- Hue
We
take an early flight to Hue.Transfer to the hotel for check in. In the
afternoon is our city tour around Hue.Cruise on the Perfume river to
visit the famous site of the Thien Mu pagoda
then walk up to visit the Tu Duc tomb and stroll to the outskirts of
Hue for stunning views and friendly locals. Back to our hotel and
relax. (B,L)

Day 4: DMZ
A short ride takes us through the former D.M.Z. (Demilitarized Zone) toward the Vinh MocTunnels. 
Local villagers built these tunnels to escape the aerial bombing during the 1960's and were the birthplace of some 30 children.
This
afternoon we visit the site of one of the fiercest battles of the
Vietnam War - the infamous Marine base of Khe Sanh. Situated on a
raised plateau and surrounded by mountains, this former airfield is
still littered with shrapnel and craters some 30 years on. Along the
way we pass by Doc Mieu firebase and remote hill tribe villages where
the lifestyle has changed little since the end of the war. Our expert
local guide will describe the battles that took place in these areas,
remnants of which can be viewed along the way. (B)

Day 5: Hue - Hoi An
A beautiful drive over the Hai Van pass, the original point of division between north and south Vietnam, 
will
take us to Danang where we will visit the intriguing Cham
museum, Danang Army Museum and the famed GI R & R resort of China
Beach. Passing Marble Mountain we make our way to the ancient port town
of Hoi An. Check into hotel. Balance of the day at leisure.(B)

Day 6: Hoi An
Hoi
An is laden with art galleries, historic buildings and fine restaurants
all of which you'll have ample time to enjoy. Whether it be a stroll
around the old quarter or embark on a bike ride through scenic rice
field down to the beach or have your clothes made at Hoi An's many
tailor-shops, Hoi An has it all.(B)

Day 7: My Son
Am:
We embark on a journey out to My Son, the former pilgrimage site of the
Cham people who once inhabited much of what is today modern Vietnam.

Day 8: Danang - Saigon
A
short flight takes us into Saigon - the bustling city where we will
visit Independence Palace and War Remnants Museum. Balance of the day
at leisure.(B)

Day 9: Vung Tau / Saigon
This morning we travel to Vung Tau, home of the Australian Task Force during the VietnamWar. 
After
touring the city and Back Beach we pick up a specialist local guide to
visit Nui Dat. We have time to climb SAS Hill and view the areas of
former Australian operations before moving to the site of the Long Tan
Cross.
After lunch we visit Long Phuoc tunnels and have an
opportunity to talk to the local people about their memories and
experiences living in this area during the conflict. Late afternoon we
return to Saigon. (B)

Day 10: Cu Chi & City Tour
The
Cu Chi tunnels are today's activitities, once home to VC guerillas
during the Vietnam War. We then move on to Tay Ninh, the site of
Vietnam's largest Cao Dai temple. Returning to Saigon mid-afternoon
there is plenty of time for a cyclo ride calling in on Ben Thanh Market
and the War Remnants Museum. In the evening there will be a farewell
dinner. (B)
